It’s Not Just a
Cleaning!
Prevention should serve as a lifestyle
pattern for total health, not the least of which is dental health.
Prevention in dentistry during the early years leads to improved
long-term oral health and reduced dental costs in the future. It
encourages a bright smile, fresh breath, and an overall good feeling
for the child. Prevention is your insurance policy for a healthier
pain-free lifestyle.
Garland Pediatric Dentistry can provide excellent services to help
your child maintain his or her dental health for a lifetime. Your
cooperation can serve to maintain optimum dental health. When you
bring your child to our office for regularly scheduled hygiene
appointments the following benefits will result:
Our staff will customize a personal home – and preventive – care
program for your child, and inform you of those dental products that
are appropriate for his or her particular needs. You will be
instructed in the proper methods of tooth brushing, flossing, and
using adjunctive dental health products.
Your child’s teeth will be cleaned and polished to remove plaque and
tartar both above and below the gum line, eliminating bacteria that
lead to cavities, bad breath, and gum disease. Fluoride will also
be applied to teeth to strengthen the enamel and reduce the risk of
decay.
Sealants may also be recommended and can be applied to the chewing
surfaces of children’s teeth to protect against future decay. This
will be scheduled for a separate dental visit.
Home-care recommendations and instructions will be provided based on
your child’s individual needs. The hygienist will provide you with
information about what types of home care your child can manage
independently based on his or her age and about the assistance that
you will need to provide for your child.
Maintaining regular hygiene appointments with your pediatric dentist
offer you the assurance that any problems regarding your child’s
oral care will be addressed immediately.

MI Paste
MI
Paste™ is a water
based topical paste containing Recaldent™ ( Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous
Calcium Phosphate). It
is a unique blend of dental tubule sealing agents designed for
professional application during standard dental practice hygiene
procedures. Numerous studies have proven the effectiveness of
Recaldent™in preventing and reversing early caries lesions often
seen as white spots. It has been proven effective in reducing
erosion in patients with reflux or acidic saliva, decalcification in
orthodontic patients, and Fluorosis. It can also be used pre / post
teeth whitening, hyper sensitivity, and aiding in saliva flow in
patients with Xerostomia (dry mouth) as a result of some
medications.
PH- Saliva Testing
Bacteria in
the mouth feed on sugar and other fermentable carbohydrates from the
diet, and convert these via fermentation into organic acids.
Production of these acids
can affect the tooth surface.
When the ph value of the saliva drops to 5.5 or lower,
demineralization of the tooth surface (enamel) will commence.
Healthy saliva can neutralize acids produced by dental
plaque, restoring the ph level to neutral, which promotes
remineralization of the demineralized enamel surface.
This process occurs many times each day, especially after
food intake. The purpose of the saliva test is to check the protective properties of
resting and stimulated saliva.
Acid and Sugar Amounts in Common Soft Drinks
(7.0 IS NEUTRAL. Anything below that
is acidic. Low Acid=demineralization of the enamel)
